7.15pm  Benefices Eucharist with hymns and address, and imposition of ashes (Sherburn)

 

FIVE Tuesday evenings during Lent (Benefices & Ecumenical, at Sherburn):

"JOURNEYS OF REDEMPTION 2018", sixteenth series of ecumenical talks, all held at the Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph the Worker, Sherburn in Elmet, 7.30pm - 9.00pm, and including light refreshments.  All are welcome to attend any or all of the talks, which are always well worth listening to.  Retiring collections for Christian Aid after each talk.

Wednesday evenings during Lent in Micklefield, 7.30pm

The Lent course this year is based on the Book of Jonah.  The introductory session has already taken place, and the main sessions are on 21 & 28 February, 7, 14 & 21 March at 7.30pm at the home of Rita Dobson, 10 Hallfield Avenue, Micklefield.  Please bring a Bible to follow text. All welcome, further information from John Taylor on 0113 287 2535.

 

FIVE Thursday lunch-times during Lent in Sherburn (Lent Lunches)

12.30 pm Eucharist in church, with addresses by Fr Chris on 'Christ and the Chocolaterie',  a Lent course inspired by the film 'Chocolat' (which was in turn based on the novel of the same name by Joanne Harris).  Using the film as a starting point, the course explores issues about God, the world, and what it means to be human:

 

                    22 February           (1)  Giving up - the prelude to change

                     1 March              (2)  Giving out - the power of a gift

                     8 March              (3)  Getting wise - the possibility of change

                   15 March              (4)  Getting real - the power of acceptance

                   22 March              (5)  Growing up - the process of change

 

Simple lunch (soup, bread & cheese) in the Church Hall follows - volunteers to do lunches each week would be much appreciated (please have a word with Angie).

 

Barkston Ash:  please note that there will be NO Lunches in Lent at Barkston this year.

Good Friday 30 March

 

 

Sherburn, 9.30am:  Children's Service/Messy Church - ..\..\My Pictures\1 Assorted logos and symbols\Lent to Easter\Easter tomb.jpghelp build the Easter Garden during the service.  Refreshments after the service.

 

and Annual Decorated Egg Competition:  hard boil a hen's egg and decorate it in whatever style you like!  Judging to take place during the refreshments after the Good Friday morning Children's Service.

Easter Monday, 2 April

Barkston, 2.00pm to 4.00pm:  Easter Egg Hunt in the church garden and Village Hall, followed by refreshments.

 

 

LENT COLLECTIONS - USPG

Lent collections will be made to USPG (now stands for United Society Partners in the Gospel).  There will be retiring collections after all services, in all the churches, and donations after the Lent Lunches at Sherburn.

 

Easter Lilies (Sherburn and Barkston)

If you would like to give any Easter lilies for the altar, perhaps in memory of a loved one, the cost is again £3.50 per stem.  Sign-up lists in church at Sherburn; please give your money for the flowers to the churchwardens please, or to Angie at Sherburn (or you may put it in the box on the wall), together with a note of your name, the amount, and what it is for.  All needed by Palm Sunday, 25 March, please.

 

Mothering Sunday, 11 March

Your help in preparing the flowers for Mothering Sunday at Sherburn would be much appreciated please.  Meet on Saturday 10 March at 10.00am in church, for about an hour.  Just turn up, or ring Susan Cox on 01977 682426 or the Vicarage on 01977 682122.

 

Easter liliesDecorating for Easter (Sherburn)

At Sherburn, the church will be being decorated for Easter on Easter Eve, Saturday 31 March from 10.00am.  Lots of foliage and any donations of yellow or white flowers, or of any additional money towards the cost of the flowers, would be much appreciated.  Again, just turn up or, preferably, let Susan or the Vicarage (01977 682122, avmw28@aol.com) know in advance if you are able to help.
